About the Park and its History
When Merriwether Lewis, William Clark, and the Corps of Discovery were making their exploratory trek through the Great Plains (including the North Dakota badlands!), they sketched and described numerous plants and animals along the way. Many of which they identified for the very first time!
You can view an image collection of their journals here. Be sure to note their sketches of the plants and animals they encountered! If you'd like to learn more about their journey and journals, you should explore PBS's site about them.
Ever wonder why it's called Theodore Roosevelt National Park? If you'd like to learn more about its history and about Theodore Roosevelt's time in the badlands, explore the Theodore Roosevelt Center's information on the park and this timeline.
The National Park Service has tons of great resources about Theodore Roosevelt National Park, including details about upcoming events, visitor guides, camping information, and directions to the park. If you want to help your parents plan the trip (or need help convincing them to take you there), here's where to turn!
If you'd like to read stories, see photos, and watch videos from other folks' visits to the park, be sure to check out this site from the National Park Foundation.
Finally, if you want to explore different places within the park before you get there, you can go on a virtual tour of it at this interactive website from the Real North Dakota Project.
